A bit on the riotous side...

This is a birthday card I recently made for my little boy. It is a bit on the riotous side, and I nearly wasn't going to put it up here, but it has kinda grown on me:


The cardstock I have used here is Tangerine Tango, Basic Black and Brushed Silver. I have stamped the rocket image in Black Stazon on watercolour paper and coloured it with an aquapainter and classic ink (in Tangerine Tango, Pacific Point and Baja Blue).

The black ribbon is from the Valet Ribbon Originals pack. The sentiment is from the Think Happy Thoughts set and has been punched out using the 1 1/4" circle punch and mounted on a metal edge tag.

Who knew tomatoes could be so much fun?



We found this lovely grassy meadow...and what better thing to do, but have a little snooze!



...or a run, take you pick ;-).

A Slacker, not a Blogger!

That's what you should call me! Sorry I haven't posted in an age. I'm having a creative hiatus and this, a week before Convention...and me with not a SINGLE swap made. Oh dear!

It doesn't help that I got a new DVD this week. Know what it is? Hmmmmmm? TWILIGHT!!! I'm watching it now...while the kids are pretending to have a nap...you know the sort? The door is shut, but there is banging, singing, a full-on cabaret show going on in there....the only thing I DO know is that there is no sleeping happening. Who am I kidding?

Anyway, I made this card:


I actually started it more than a week ago. It started to uninspire me and it has been sitting about, blocking my mojo ever since. It is a mojo killer! Bad card!!

Now that have that little rant off my chest..here are the ingredients (all from Stampin' Up!):

Also, I just wanted to ask if any of you knew how to stop slaters easting zucchinis in the garden? I am growing zucchinis, and they look all small and dark green and wonderful, and the next day I come out and there are slaters MAULING the baby zucchinis! My hubby suggested I put out a hammock and stand guard (A FUNNY MAN, NOT!)...any other, more helpful suggestions out there? I really want to taste some home grown zucchini eventually!

Banksia - Bloom Away

I made this card for a Stampin' Up! Demo friend who is just the best....thanks again Di :-):


The base card measures 6 x 6 inches square. I know you can't see it in this photo, but I have brushed Crystal Effects onto the Banksia flower using a small paint brush.

Ingredients (all available from Stampin' Up!):

A Good Egg and some chit chat...

Today I have been a busy bee...making my swap cards for the SOS swap I am taking part in. The idea is to use only things from the current IBC that are NOT retiring, and this is my card:


As I only had to make five of these cards I decided to add lots of layers and fiddly stuff. I am very happy with they way they turned out.

I have also been meaning to show you one of my first attempts at jewellery making:


The focal beads are hand made, glass beads, made by Melissa Rediger. The rest of the bracelet comprises Sterling silver bali beads and Swarovski crystals. I had so much fun making this bracelet, there will definitely be more ;-). I call it my 'Fiesta' bracelet because it is so bright and happy. I can't stop looking at it when it is on my wrist (and yes, I have walked into stuff because of this ;-)!

Oliver

Here is another card I have made with one of Bizzy Bec's lovely new designs...Oliver:


Bec supplied a package of lovely designer papers in black, silver and grey and some paper flowers, buttons, ribbons and brads. They all loked so beautiful together that I tried to use as many things as I could on the one card :-).

The base cardstock is black and is folded to form an A-frame card. I punched out a variety of the designer papers using a 1 1/4 inch square punch and adhered them to the background cardstock.

I stamped Oliver on some Stampin' Up! Watercolour Paper in Black Stazon and coloured him using an aquapainter and Classic Inks (Close to Cocoa, Blush Blossom, Basic Gray, Going Gray, Real Red and Old Olive). I really wanted to apply some Crystal Effects to the flowers and bow tie, but I have had some bad luck with Crystal Effects on Real Red...it seems to leach all the colour out and you end up with pink Crystal Effects and orangey pink underneath..ICKY...if you know how to stop or get around this I'd be very interested to hear about it.

The 'Be mine' sentiment is from the Papertrey Ink Heart Prints set.

I have mounted the flowers together using a brad and then adhered them to the card with a dimensional.

I guess this would have been a great Valentine's Day card...but there is never really a wrong time to give a special someone a card like this!

An Affair To Remember

First of all, I feel so honoured to have been asked to create a card for this week's Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge....so huge thanks go to Sankari and Brooke for asking me :-). Anthonette was also asked to be a guest designer this week, you can see her fabulous card here.

This week's movie is 'An Affair To Remember':


...and it almost turned into a drama of epic proportions. I've never seen it (yes, I live in a cave) so I zipped down to the local Civic Video store and tried to borrow it. No luck! They didn't have it. I then looked online to see if I could borrow it through iTunes. Again, no luck...they didn't have it either. Starting to feel a tad deseperate I checked YouTube hoping some naughty person had posted it....ARGHHHHHHHHH, no luck!

I was starting to wave goodbye to my first-ever guest designer appearance. On Christmas eve, I bit the bullet and headed down to the mall in a last ditch effort to find it. I went to Virgin...no luck, Sanity...no luck, EzyDVD...no luck, Target...no luck. I was hyperventilating (along with all the other last minute Christmas shoppers ;-). My last stop was Kmart...I was feeling defeated. I was flicking through the racks without enthusiasm, already composing my tragic email to Sankari in my head. I was so absorbed in my defeat I actually flicked right past the movie and had to go back to it! EUREKA!! I did a little happy dance right there in the aisle....a bit of Christmas eve entertainment for the security camera dude :-).

Now, before you get tired of all my waffling...here is my card:


I think you can guess where my inspiration comes from. I have used Stampin' Up!'s 'Boatloads of Love' boat stamp set to recreate the Constitution...as seen through a porthole (created using Spellbinders Nestabilities circles and my Cuttlebug). I've decked the boat out with a love theme...of course. Perfect for Valentine's Day!

I deliberately kept the colours muted...a la a colourised black and white movie. The boat has been watercoloured with Night of Navy Classic ink and an aquapainter. The sky is Soft Sky and the water is very light Night of Navy. I have used some retired 'Loves Me' Designer Series Paper to cover the heart and then painted it with Crystal Effects. I have also added Crystal Effects onto the water and fenders for some added texture. I have used white Liquid Applique on the exhaust cloud above the stack and I have recreated portholes on the Constitution using eyelets.


And, that's all there is to it! A simple little card which reminds me of An Affair to Remember.

PS. Thanks for all the comments on my Twilight post. I read the first book last weekend, read the partial draft of Midnight Sun (which is the first 12 chapters of the Twilight story from Edward's perspective...it is available on Stephenie Meyer's website....PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE finish it Stephenie, I promise to buy it), then I went and saw the movie again (I enjoyed it even more the second time around)! I'm listening to the Movie Score as I type (but my favourite song is from the Soundtrack not the Score, and is Supermassive Black Hole by Muse...the baseball game theme song :-). Yep...completely hooked!

Cute Anna Mae

My apologies for the general lack of new things to look at on here. My other half brought back a lovely gift for me from the UK...a hideous cold. Two weeks of feeling BLERGGGHhhhhhh and now I'm on antibiotics for a sinus infection and eye drops for conjunctivitus. Did I mention how sorry for myself I've been feeling? This, and it's Summer...NOT FAIR!

Anyway, I just thought I'd show you a little birthday card I made recently. I have used a brand new stamp set that I got from Our Craft Lounge (PS. Kristina's Color Inspiration #31

Now, I hope you will forgive my lack of creativity. I have a cold, and feel blah! I think this card is a bit blah too, well it looks bland to me!

I have embossed the whole of the main image (using the reverse masking technique) and the leaves on the background image (using a Versamark pen). You can see the embossing a bit better in this close-up image:

NO MORE SURFING SANTAS....d'ya hear me?

This is what 20 Surfing Santas looks like! There will be no more Surfing Santas in this household. Not today, not tomorrow, not next week! I am all Surfing Santa'd out. COMPRENDE?

It is such a good feeling having this job completed though! It took a while, even with Mum helping (she coloured 10 of those Santas for me last week while she was visiting).....thanks Ma, you rock :-)!

I sent the parcel off to my brother today. So his Christmas cards will be out by the end of the week. Hope he likes them!


I played around with the water colour, and have made 10 with Blue Bayou surf, and 10 with Brilliant Blue surf. I also changed from a Whisper White background layer and envelope to Very Vanilla, because it matched better with the off white colouring of the watercolour paper and the twill tape. On two of the cards I had a small tinker with adding some Liquid Applique to the breaking water of the wave, but thought it ended up being a bit too busy for my liking.

Now I can get back to mucking around with my new Summer Mini catalogue goodies :-).

More Unfrogettable

Last night I sat down to make another card. As I already had all of Kristina's lovely Colour Inspiration cardstock colours strewn about my work space, and my watercolouring paraphenalia and Unfrogettable stamp set still at hand, I decided another card along the same lines as yesterday's was in order ;-). SLACKER!!!!!!!!


The TV pickings weren't quite so engrossing last night. Aeon Flux.....which I've seen before...but does kinda make me wish I'd taken up gymnastics at some point. GO Charlize!

Anyhoo, this card...I used the Snail this time. Cute little guy isn't he? Not much else to say. I used Crystal Effects again, but just on the snail's shell, his eyes, and the centres of the little flowers. The So Saffron DSP is one of the sheets from the Palette O' Prints pack. I have stamped the Canvas stamp on the background cardstock. The 'Thank You' sentiment is from one of Stampin' Up!'s Rub-On packs. I am pleased with the end product!


Yesterday, a simply magnificent Spring day here in the ACT, Miss 4 and I went to visit a friend of mine and her horse. Miss 4 got to have her first ever horse meet and greet, and she had a wonderful time. She got to have a little ride too....I'll spare you the pic of me perched precariously up there on Teddy's back....let's just say I was holding on tight :-).

Kristina's Color Inspiration #25

I have not had a chance to participate in one of Kristina Werner's colour inspirations for quite some time, but when I saw this challenge on my Google Reader last night I couldn't help myself.



The Shawshank Redemption was on telly here, and I had never seen it before, so I decide to watch it while working on this card. If you look closely at the watercolouring you will see what a large mistake that was. The movie was so good I kept getting sidetracked and stuffing up my colouring :-(



I only applied the Crystal Effects this morning, so it is still wet...and I was worried that it would kind of slide down the card while I was photographing it, but it seems to have stayed in place!



These colours were a lot of fun to work with. Very cheery indeed. I think the Hoppy Birthday frog suited this challenge very well.

Pretty Princess

This little card serves two purposes:

1/ It is made using the colours I chose for my recent blog comp....so this will be my contribution to that :-)

2/ I needed a birthday card for a good friend...et volia!


The cardstock colours are: Perfect Plum, Rose Red, Pretty in Pink, Soft Sky and Whisper White. I have stamped the background cardstock with the Linen background stamp. The princess is stamped on watercolour paper in black Stazon ink and coloured with an Aquapainter and Classic Ink. I have also highlighted her crown, wand and dress with Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds.

The ribbons are from the Fairy Tale and Flirty (retired) Ribbon Originals packs, and the 'Make a Wish' sentiment is from the Eastern Elegance Rub-Ons pack (in the Spring Mini Catalogue).

I had a little play with Pretty Princess this afternoon, and this is what I came up with.


The cardstock colours are: Rose Red, Whisper White, Soft Sky and Pretty in Pink. The Soft Sky layer has been cuttlebugged. The cake is from the Pretty Princess stamp set, and has been stamped on watercolour paper in black Stazon, and then coloured with an Aquapainter and Classic Ink. I have highlighted some of the cake icing with Crystal Effects, and the candle flame has Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds on it.

The pink ribbon is from the retired Flirty Ribbon Originals pack, the 'Wish Big' sentiment is from the Short & Sweet stamp set, and the frame is Styled Silver Hodgepodge Hardware (in the current Spring Mini Catalogue).

I've got another card to show you, but it might have to wait until tomorrow. Sooooooo sleepy :-).

Surfin' Santa

My little brother has been asking me since last Christmas if I would make his Christmas cards this year. He wants twenty, and he wants to pay me to make them (isn't he a sweetie :-). Anyhoo...I've been 'crastinating and 'crastinating and 'crastinating...and finally he says to me last week...'Sam, I need 'em in 7 weeks!' Hokey Smokes! My little bro works 4 weeks on/4 weeks off and commutes between Oz and West Africa for each shift (yes he has frequent fliers!!!!!!!!). He knows people all over the world due to his work and travels, and he has advised me that he wants to put his O/S Christmas cards in the mail during his next stop here (late Oct/Early November)......HOW ORGANISED IS THAT? Rate I'm going I'll be lucky to get mine in the mail before Christmas, let alone in OCTOBER!

Anyway, last night I decided to stop the 'crastinating and get to it. I'd already ordered the stamp set that I thought he would like, and a few other bits and pieces that I fancied I'd give a whirl...and last night with a BRAND NEW SEASON OF NCIS on the telly to keep me company (YEEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH), and an icy cold Vanilla Coke :-)...I knuckled down and started. I did have a few directives...no fluffy fussy stuff, or bling (BOOOHOOO)..he even said no ribbon..WT? That's not on, so I just ignored that bit ;-).

I've just now finished my first attempt, and wanted to see what you thought...Mum, you especially...whaddaya reckon? Will it pass muster?



I realise I've set the bar high. Watercolouring twenty of these Surfin' Santa's will probably put an end to any desire to watercolour for at least the next 2 years...but I really like the look! Mum, who is a fabulous watercolourist herself, has also very kindly offered to sub-contract some of the watercolouring for me...so its not as big a job as it might seem.

The cardstock colours are: Whisper White, Real Red and Old Olive. I've used Real Red, Old Olive, Blue Bayou and Creamy Caramel Classic Inks (this Santa has spent a wee bit of time in the sun...I was going to colour him Blush Blossom.....which I fancy is a more likely body colour for him given his Arctic abode..but Creamy Caramel looked better IMO).

The Old Olive layer has been Cuttlebugged (yes, and the sky is blue Sam!!), and I have stamped the sentiment on Twill Tape in Black Stazon (and I was surprised how well it came out). I've attached the Twill and 5/8" Real Red ribbon strips using Red Eyelets.

Last but not least, I purchased some Liquid Applique for Santa's beard, mo and Christmas hat trim. This stuff is FABULOUS! What a groovy look. Gotta get me some more of that :-).



So what do you reckon...will he be happy with this?

For a friend...

This card is for a good friend who is retiring...



I was hesitant about putting a bow on a card for a man, but I am happy with the end result and hope that he will like it too.

The stamped image is from the retired (how appropriate) Stampin' Up! set, Fun & Fast Notes, and has been stamped on watercolour paper in black Stazon. I have watercoloured the image using an aquapainter and classic ink. The background card is in Tempting Turquoise. The next layer is a piece of More Mustard DSP from the East Coast Prep pack. Then there is a piece of Real Red which I have cuttlebugged, then a piece of Wild Wasabi. The ribbon around the Real Red layer is from the Jersey Ribbon Originals pack.

I have received two beautiful entries for my 20k blog candy competition which ends on Tuesday 30th September. I will try and post pictures of those cards later today. Thanks so much for entering ladies!

Happy Birthday Mr 2

We have a Birthday coming up in our house...and this is the card that I have made for that occasion!



My apologies for the poor lighting. I may take this card and my challenge card outside tomorrow and re-photograph them. They look pretty dim to me. As an aside, how close are the colours to those of the Colour Challenge? I actually started this card the night before Kristina posted her colours....SPOOKY!

I really do LOVE this stamp set. It is a Level One Hostess set, and it was the first set I got when I made my new IBC purchases in early April. I especially love it because I've been having fun watercolouring, and it lends itself to that nicely.

The background cardstock is Blue Bayou...probably my favourite colour from the new 'In Colour' range for 2008. The next layer is Soft Sky and is textured cardstock. I have embossed a piece of Cardstock Vellum using the Cuttlebug and one of the emboss folders. This layer is attached using silver brads. The ribbon is Purely Pomegrante Satin Ribbon that was given to me by a friend in the US. I hope that it will be available here some time this year. There is then another small layer of Blue Bayou, then the main image is stamped on Watercolour Paper using Stazon and coloured using an Aquapainter and Classic Ink.
