Kristina's Color Inspiration Challenge #49

When I first saw Kristina's colours this week, I didn't think I was up to the challenge:


But after a successful Easter Egg Hunt yesterday I was feeling pretty much up to ANYTHING! ;-).

I pulled out the colours last night...and put together the base while I was watching Bones (it'll be a NEW episode next week...YAHOOOOOO!!!!!!!). I couldn't work out what the main image or sentiment was going to be though so I went to bed a bit disheartened. When I got up this morning I decided on chipboard and glitter...and this is what I came up with:


Ingredients (all from Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted):

Cardstock: Basic Black (textured), Whisper White (textured), Kiwi Kiss and Rose Red
Ink: Rose Red and Pacific Point Classic Ink
Accessories: Patterns Designer Series Paper in Pacific Point and Kiwi Kiss, Fine Supernova Stampin' Glitter in Pink and Aqua, Chipboard (retired), Pigtails Ribbon Originals, Chit Chat Rub-ons, Crimper, Tombow Multipurpose Adhesive, Dimensionals and SNAIL adhesive.

I haven't participated in one of Kristina's Colour Inspirations for a while now, and after a comment left by Debbie yesterday, I thought I'd give it a try.

Kristina's Color Inspiration #37

I haven't participated in one of Kristina's Color inspirations for quite some time, and still having a little Christmas holiday time on my hands I thought I'd participate in this week's:


I sat down to it last night (with the tennis in the background), and by Midnight I had the layout, stamps and general direction of where I was going...but I just couldn't make it look right. So I headed to bed and thought I'd sleep on it.

That would have been all fine and dandy if the local hoods hadn't been boosting cars are dragging them on the road a couple of streets away. I lay there listening to them leaving their big important marks on the roads and grinding the gears (and wishing they'd grow up) for at least an hour (sorry about the whinge...just had to get it off my chest). Anyway, when I woke this morning I didn't have much more idea or inspiration than I did at midnight last night...but it is going to have to do!


It looks a little naked IMO...probably could have used a sentiment along the bottom...but it ended up looking a little too crowded for me. I like the layout and the stamps a lot! I have substituted Soft Sky for the Baja Breeze, which we don't have.

Ingredients:

Cardstock: Soft Sky, Whisper White and Textured Chocolate Chip
Paper: Spring Silhouette and Summer Picnic Designer Series papers
Stamps: Papertrey Ink Heart Prints
Inks: Old Olive Classic Ink
Accessories: SU Scallop Edge Punch, SU 1/16" Circle, Old Olive Grosgrain Ribbon, SNAIL, Dimensionals and Glue Dots.

That's all there is to it! Have you noticed how much I like layers and symmetry (how could you not, hey?). This is the reason I've been looking at sketch challenges. Trying to shake my dependence on symmetry....and try something a bit different. Obviously I didn't succeed here, but there is always tomorrow :-).

Two challenges, one card...and some candy!

Ok, so I feel like I'm cheating a bit here...but I ran out of time today, and so I have combined Kristina's Colour Challenge, and the Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge.

These are Kristina's colours for the week:


And here is the Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge:


For my card I have used Kristina's colours, while the theme is (quite obviously I hope) from The Sound of Music:



The base cardstock is Whisper White, the background cardstock is textured Bashful Blue, the far Alps are Sage Shadow and the near hills are Certainly Celery. The small white flowers (aka Edelweiss) are from the Love Birds Rub-Ons. The Pale and Perfect Plum flowers are punched using the Spring Flower Bouquet punch and have beautiful Dew Droplets in Pearl as their centres. The moon is Whisper White cardstock and the sentiment is from the Cherished Memories Rub-Ons.

A little more about the Dew Droplets:


I got these from The Little Online Card Shop. They are by The Robin's Nest and the colours above are: Bird of Paradise, Daffodil, Hardy Ivy and Pearl (there are heaps more colours to choose from...but I stopped at four).

Ho ho ho, it's colour challenge time again!

It is time for another Kristina Werner Color Challenge, and this week's colours are:


Kristina did say that you could substitute the Sahara Sand for a metallic, and I have done this, but have used a metal edge tag for my metallic. I have also substituted Real Red for Riding Hood Red, as we don't yet have that colour here in Oz.

This is my card:





The base cardstock is Real Red and has been stamped with one of the snow flake stamps from the Merry, Merry stamp set. The hat lining is Whisper White and has been punched out with the scallop punch. I have mounted the triangular piece of the hat up on dimensionals. The hat ornament is a metal edge tag, mounted up on a scallop of whisper white cardstock. The sentiment is from the Merry, Merry stamp set, and has been stamped in Real Red classic ink on Very Vanilla cardstock and punched out with the 1 inch circle punch.

I thought I'd make you a really quick tutorial in case you were interested in making one of these Santa Hat cards yourself:

Step 1: Cut an A4 sheet of cardstock in half, length-ways:


Step 2: Score at halfway mark and fold cardstock. Make pencil marks at 0.5 inch and 1.5 inch from the bottom, on both sides, and at 1 inch from each corner at the top. Draw lines connecting marks as shown in the image below, and cut along these lines:


Step 3: Cut along the lines you have drawn, then stamp cardstock. Run SNAIL adhesive along the bottom 1 inch of the cardstock as shown below:


Step 4: Mount four scallop circles along base of card, to form hat lining (if you want your card to fit in an envelope, you'll have to make sure you don't extend the scallops too far past the edge of the hat, or reduce the width of the base cardstock):


Step 5: Using a piece of cardstock 2 inches wide and 3 inches long, mark out a triangle:


Step 6: Decorate triangle, cut it out, mount on dimensionals and affix to top front of card:



Then just add your hat decoration, and you're done!

Kristina's Color Inspiration #31

It is time for Kristina's weekly Colour Inspiration, and this week's colours are:


This is the card I made using these colours:


Now, I hope you will forgive my lack of creativity. I have a cold, and feel blah! I think this card is a bit blah too, well it looks bland to me!

The ingredients are:

Cardstock: Pumpkin Pie, Close to Cocoa, Whisper White, Elegant Eggplant and Watercolour Paper.
Inks: Black Stazon, Versamark, Elegant Eggplant, So Saffron and Pumpkin Pie Classic Ink.
Stamps: Embrace Life.
Accessories: Clear Embossing Powder
Other: Crimper, Aquapainter, SNAIL adhesive, Sticky Strip, Dimensionals.

I have embossed the whole of the main image (using the reverse masking technique) and the leaves on the background image (using a Versamark pen). You can see the embossing a bit better in this close-up image:

Color Inspiration #30

I was very excited to see that Kristina posted her Color Inspiration a little early this week. It mean't that I could have a play while waiting for the washing to finish :-).

This week's colours are:


And, this is the card that this graphic has inspired me to make:



You will probably have noticed two things about my cards of late. 1/ I am slightly enamoured with the A-frame layout, and 2/ I'm still having a 'thing' for rub-ons.

The rub-ons I have used here are retired, but there are still so many other sets to chose from. The background cardstock is textured Sahara Sand. Then there is a thin layer of Old Olive cardstock. The white is Glossy white cardstock, and the ribbon is Certainly Celery from the Fairy Tale Ribbon Originals pack. The hodge podge is Styled Silver.

Back to the washing now...boo hoo ;-).

PS. I know it is Elegant EGGPLANT, not Elegant LAVENDER...but I don't have any eggplants growing in my garden to use as a backdrop. If only Stampin' up! would release colours called Tentatively Tomato, Scrap of Strawberry, Case of Coriander, Sometimes Spinach, Plump Pea or Oh, Oh, Oh Onion...then I could start themeing all my card photos.

Some Pumpkin Pie and Ruby Red Happiness...

Same old story...all the stuff from Kristina's latest colour inspiration were still scattered about my desk...so I used them, again!


It is another simple card. I've used the Swiss Dots cuttlebug folder on the Pumpkin Pie layer. The main image has been stamped onto watercolour paper in Black Stazon, and watercoloured with an aquapainter and classic ink. I have highlighted the flowers with Crystal Effetcs, because I really enjoy doing that! The Sage Shadow ribbon is from the District ribbon originals pack.


I have a cold, so I'm gonna go curl up on the couch and watch K-PAX.

Oh, So Lovely

I love it when Kristina posts her color inspirations on a Wednesday...it means I actually have time to sit down and play (sometimes ;-).

This week's color inspiration colours are very beautiful:


My submission is only a simple card, but it took a good bit longer to make than I would have liked. I think my mojo is out visiting, but I kept going without it anyway:


The background cardstock is Ruby Red. I have stamped it with the crosshatch stamp in the 'Oh, So Lovely' stamp set. Then there are a whole bunch of layers, including a piece of cardstock vellum. The main image is also from the 'Oh, So Lovely' stamp set, and it has been stamped in Stazon onto Whisper White textured cardstock.

I have coloured the poppies using Stampin' Up! Watercolour Wonder Crayons. You will have to believe me when I tell you the stems of those poppies are Sage Shadow. I have also applied Crystal Effects to the flower heads.

A Tricky Color Inspiration!

I'm not afraid to say that I found Kristina's latest Colour Inspiration REALLY HARD! REALLY, REALLY HARD!!


I measure 'HARD' by the state of my workspace at the end of creating...and suffice to say this was one of the hardest...


WOT A MESSY SAMMY!

Anyhoo....I got it done, and I think it is even within deadline.


The background cardstock is Whisper White. The next layer is textured Wild Wasabi (still loving textured ;-). The Rose Red ribbon is from the Fairy Tale ribbon originals set. The 'You make me SMILE' sentiment is from the 'Anchored' Rub-Ons pack. I've then mounted a large square aluminium edged tag up on dimensionals. The next layer is Bashful Blue cardstock which has been punched out with the scallop punch and pierced around the petals. Then there is a piece of So Saffron cardstock which has been crimped and punched out using the 1 3/8" circle punch, then there is a layer of Rose Red cardstock, punched out using 3/4" circle punch and mounted up on dimensionals, and last...but certainly NOT least, is the smiley face Rub-On, from the 'A Perfect Day' pack in the current Spring Mini Catalogue.

Kristina's Color Inspiration #25

I have not had a chance to participate in one of Kristina Werner's colour inspirations for quite some time, but when I saw this challenge on my Google Reader last night I couldn't help myself.



The Shawshank Redemption was on telly here, and I had never seen it before, so I decide to watch it while working on this card. If you look closely at the watercolouring you will see what a large mistake that was. The movie was so good I kept getting sidetracked and stuffing up my colouring :-(



I only applied the Crystal Effects this morning, so it is still wet...and I was worried that it would kind of slide down the card while I was photographing it, but it seems to have stayed in place!



These colours were a lot of fun to work with. Very cheery indeed. I think the Hoppy Birthday frog suited this challenge very well.

Color Inspiration #16

It's that time of the week again....Kristina's Colour Inspiration, and here are this week's beautiful colours:

I've used the Nursery Necessities Stamp Set for the boats and the 'rock-a-bye Baby' sentiment, and the Linen Background stamp on the Soft Sky background cardstock (but that might be a bit hard to see here). The scalloping was done with the Stampin Up! Corner Rounder, and then pierced. I've also used some Soft Sky Double-Stitched Ribbon and Silver Eyelets to finish it all off.

Okay...gotta get back to Spooks. It's a bit exciting tonight :-).

Colour Inspiration #15

I know I've missed the cutoff for this week's Color Inspiration on Kristina's Blog, but I'd already started it and wanted to finish it...as you do ;-).

I thought that they would be really easy to work with, but I struggled.

Here is my card:



I've used the True Friend stamp set and Chocolate Chip Satin Ribbon, both of which will be available from 1st August, when the Stampin' Up! Spring Mini Catalogue goes on sale in Australia. The Close To Cocoa velvet ribbon is from the Theatre Ribbon Originals set. I've done some Paper Piercing around the edge of the Close To Cocoa layer, and I have also sponged Classic Ink on the Close To Cocoa and Really Rust layers. I've used lots of Crystal Effects on the central flower image. LOVE that stuff!!

Another Colour Inspiration card...

I've used lots of ribbon....Ribbon Originals, new and retired, and a rub-on from the A Perfect Day set. Have I told you how much I love Stampin' Up! Rub-Ons? They are very high quality. I have not had one crack or rip, and they go on really easily.

Colour Inspiration #13

I thought I'd participate in another of Kristina's Color Inspirations.

Actually, that is not completely true. It is actually mine and Mum's contribution. Thanks for the consult Mum ;-).

I really like the pillow on the far left of the bed, and drew my inspiration from it. There is very little stamping on this card, in fact you may not be able to see the only stamping that I have done. The large Purely Pomegranate layer has been stamped with the Linen Background stamp, in Purely Pomegranate Classic Ink. The rest is punches, brads, eyelets and ribbon.

PS. I'd like to add that I did not find these colours easy to work with at all. My Regal Rose is looking a bit flourescent, maybe because it was next to the Purely Pomegranate? Also, I realise that my colour inspiration cards are following a distinct trend....I'll have to get myself out of that for the next one!
